authorship

International Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Science (IJNMS) adopts international standards and guidelines from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding authorship criteria to ensure transparency and accountability in scholarly publishing.

  1. Authorship Criteria (ICMJE Guidelines) Every individual listed as an author on a manuscript submitted to IJNMS must meet all four of the following criteria:

  • Substantial Contributions: Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.

  • Drafting or Revising: Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content.

  • Final Approval: Final approval of the version to be published.

  • Accountability: Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Authors must meet criteria 1, 2, 3, and 4 simultaneously. Individuals who participate only in securing funding, general data collection, or general supervision of a research group do not qualify for authorship.

  1. Non-Author Contributors (Acknowledgments) Contributors who do not meet all four criteria above should not be listed as authors, but should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section. Examples of contributions that fall into this category include:

  • Technical writing assistance or language editing.

  • Funding or administrative support.

  • Department heads or research group leaders who provide purely general oversight.

  1. Corresponding Author The corresponding author is the single individual who takes primary responsibility for communication with the journal during the submission, peer review, and production processes. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have been included, have approved the final version of the manuscript, and have agreed to its publication.

  2. Changes in Authorship Any addition, deletion, or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list after manuscript submission must be approved in writing by all authors. The IJNMS editors reserve the right to request explanations or proof of contribution if authorship changes occur during the review process.

  3. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) AI-based tools (such as Large Language Models or chatbots) do not meet the authorship criteria because they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript. The use of AI in writing must be transparently disclosed in accordance with the AI policy applicable at IJNMS.
